Skiing & Snowboarding
Imagine sliding through 4,200 acres of pristine powder in the heart of a majestic wilderness. Whether you are carving down groomed trails or exploring remote bowls, Lake Louise offers a dream-like experience that you just cannot find anywhere else.
With three world-class resorts nearby, including the famous Lake Louise Ski Resort just five minutes away, staying at the Mountaineer Lodge means you are perfectly placed for an epic winter adventure.
The winter season typically runs from early November to early May. For the best snow conditions, aim for mid-winter, but do not overlook spring skiing in April for sunshine and softer slopes. Because we are so close to the hill, our rooms fill up fast. We recommend booking at least 4 to 6 weeks out to secure your preferred dates and the best rates.

Lake Louise is called the "crown jewel" for a reason... it works for everyone. It is ideal for families and groups because there is a beginner, intermediate, and expert run down from almost every single chairlift. This means you can all ride the lift together and meet at the bottom, no matter your skill level.
About Lake Louise Ski Resort
Lake Louise is the largest ski resort in the Canadian Rockies, offering 164 named runs over a massive 4,200 acres of skiable terrain across four mountain faces. You can explore everything from the wide-open powder in the West Bowl to scenic glades and world-class groomed runs that offer stunning views of Mount Temple and the Pika Valley.
Big Mountain Fun: What to Expect
With so much terrain to cover, it helps to know the highlights before you arrive. Whether you are looking for the longest run or a break from the slopes, there is something for everyone:
➡ Sunny Side Up: The resort is designed so you can "follow the sun" all day long, from the front side in the morning to the back bowls in the afternoon.
➡ Beyond the Skis: Take a break with a visit to the Sunny Tube Park or ride the Sightseeing Gondola for some of the best photo ops in the Canadian Rockies.
➡ Live Updates: Use the resort’s new digital lift and run report to check which chairlifts are open and which runs were freshly groomed overnight.
➡ Guided Tours: Join the Ski Friends group for a free mountain tour. These local volunteers meet daily at the base area to show you the best hidden spots and share local stories.

How to Get to the Slopes: Hop on the Free Ski Shuttle
Getting to the mountain is a total breeze from our front door. We are located just five minutes from the base, so you can skip the parking lot hustle and hop on the free ski shuttle that picks you up right at the front doors of the Main Lodge building.
Most of our guests like to arrive at the hill by 8:30 am to catch the best morning corduroy and spend the day exploring the the mountain. After a full day on the slopes, you can head back for a soak in our hot tub and then walk over to a local spot in the village for a hearty dinner by 6:00 pm. It is the perfect way to wrap up a classic Lake Louise ski day.

Before You Head Out
Start your day with our full hot breakfast buffet. We have everything from hot protein choices and energy-packed carbs to fresh fruit and hot coffee to get you moving.
Alberta winters can be chilly! Wear thermal base layers, a warm mid-layer, and a waterproof jacket and pants. Don't forget a helmet and goggles to protect you from the wind and sun.
It's a good idea to get to the resort between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. You will beat the crowds and get the first pick of those freshly groomed runs.
On the Mountain
Whether you bring your own or rent at the hill, make sure your boots and bindings are fitted properly. If you are a snowboarder, don't forget your leash!
Navigate Like a Pro: Grab a mountain guide or download the trail map. Lake Louise is huge, so it helps to know which runs match your skill level before you head up the gondola.
Even pros can pick up a new trick. Booking a private or group lesson is a great way to refine your skills and find the best hidden spots on the mountain.
Pack a water bottle and a lunch in your backpack. You can store your bag in a locker at the Main Lodge or enjoy the various dining spots across the resort.
The Perfect Après-Ski
After a big day, stop by a local pub for some cozy eats. We have plenty of Lake Louise restaurant recommendations just a short walk from the lodge.
Hang your boots, gloves and mitts on your in-room boot dryer to dry out and warm up overnight.
